The Martian

Six days ago astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.  Now he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.  After a dust storm forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mar's surface, with no way to signal Earth that he's alive.  And even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone years before a rescue could arrive.  Armed with nothing but his ingenuity, his engineering skills and a gallows sense of humor that proves to be his greatest source of strength-Mark embarks on a dogged quest to stay alive.  But will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Looking for Alaska

Miles "Pudge" Halter's whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.

looking for Alaska is one of my all time favorite books, it is for sure a tear jerker. John green did an amazing job with this book, from the way he builds up his story line , from the way he describes details. Although it has the rep of being a "girl" book, i would recommend this book for all genders. It is for sure a must read.

The Red Pyramid

Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them--Set has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe -- a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

The red pyramid is very exciting book, i could not put it down. I got so into this book i think i read until three am one night. The way Rick Riordan writes this story is so amazing, it will have you hooked almost instantaneous. I would would recommend this book for anyone looking for an exciting plot twisting adventure.

City of Bones

When 15 year old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium club, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teens with strange tattoos and bizarre weapons. She would call the police, but it's a bit hard to considering that these murders are invisible to everyone but her.
    Later on, Clary learns

ATLANTIA

“Utterly captivating. A heroine unlike any I’d met before, a setting I’d never glimpsed, a story I’d never imagined. Atlantia is fresh, wild, and engrossing. I love Ally Condie.”

For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamed of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all Rio’s hopes for the future are shattered when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected choice, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long silenced—she has nothing left to lose.

Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the corrupted system constructed to govern the Divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.
